Support For Nested Labels in Google Mail
Google recently released into labs the ability to have nested labels within Google mail. This has been a long awaited feature, especially with organisations used to using deeply nested folder structures to organise mail.
The great news is that the Cloud Google Migrator supports nested labels straight out of the box. When a label is applied to a message by the migration tool, the folder structure of the folders containing the message is used for the label. For example, if a message was in a folder called ‘Customers’ and that folder was a sub-folder of ‘Support’, then a label of ‘Support/Customers’ will be created in Google mail. This is the exact same format that is required to support nested labels – all that needs to be done, after a migration with the default label settings – is to enable nested labels within the Google labs settings.
Of course, the Cloud Google Migrator can also create one label per folder for messages, so in the example above the message would have labels of both ‘Customers’ and ‘Support’.
