In light of current global events, some businesses are encountering new challenges as they plan to enable remote working at scale. From equipping your team with the right tools to ensuring safe access to company data on a daily basis, here are some questions you should keep in mind to make sure your organisation is prepared:
Does your team have access to the equipment they need to work from home?
Different teams will have different needs, but most people will probably need a portable device, like a laptop. Most of us at CTS use Chromebooks, so everyone is always ready to access cloud-based applications. Additionally, since they’re linked to your Google account, new devices can be set up quickly so team members can access their applications in a matter of minutes, rather than hours.
Depending on their home setup, some people might also need monitors and headsets. Organisations need to make sure that everyone has what they need to carry out their day to day tasks.
Do you have a way to ensure that teams can communicate and carry out meetings remotely?
One of the biggest challenges that remote workers highlight is the feeling of isolation. Being away from the office takes away social interactions that some people find vital to stay motivated. However, thanks to technology, it’s easier than ever for teams to stay connected.
Making sure that you have the right software in place to facilitate these connections is essential to succeed. At CTS, we use Hangouts Meet for video conferencing (yes, even for company-wide calls!) and Chat as an instant messaging solution. Some of our colleagues have even reported a greater number of conversations and interactions - and an increase in collaboration, enabled by these tools.
Do employees have access to the applications and data that they need to carry out their tasks?
This might be a bigger challenge for companies relying on legacy IT systems and on-premise data centres. However, for cloud-based companies, it’s a matter of making sure that you have enough licenses for all remote employees.
As a cloud-native company, we have always taken advantage of Google’s technology. With G Suite's comprehensive range of applications, it’s easy for teams to collaborate, access their files and share the work they do, wherever they are.
Do you have a company-wide communications plan to keep everyone up to date with business activities?
Having the right software is just the first step. It’s important that you also develop a plan to keep everyone up to speed with business activities and any other updates on a regular basis.
Hangouts Meet has been the perfect solution for us at every scale. From our fortnightly company calls to our daily team standups, having the right tools for video conferencing has been essential to keep us connected.
Is everyone familiar with the tools that you’re using and the processes that you’re implementing?
Having the right tools and processes in place it’s great, but you also need to make sure that everyone knows how to make the most of what’s available for them. Sharing online resources or setting up remote training sessions is an excellent way to make sure that everyone can take advantage of the technology and continue delivering outstanding results.
To get started, why not watch our on-demand webinar in partnership with Google?
